“The fresh-cut flowers are transported by rail. Because it can transport flowers to many places across China safely and cheaply, “ said Ms. Zhang, who was packaging the flowers with other staff in Kunming Railway Station on Feb. 14.

Zhang, who is in charge of a wholesale company of fresh-cut flowers, has been selling flowers by rail for a long time. With the help of the railway, Yunnan flower growers and florists around China are linked with each other. By trading seasonal flowers, they have seen sales volumes increase stably.

“This year, we have sold by rail more than 8 tons of flowers to many other provinces like Hunan and Guangdong,” said Zhang, adding the sales volume has already exceeded one million yuan.

The peak season for flower trade is February each year. In order to keep the transportation stable, China Railway Kunming Group and China Railway Express Co. have cooperated in the flower express-delivery business.

With the improved process of loading and transporting and other joint efforts, they transported flowers safely and quickly. Up to now, 270 tons of flowers have been sold. Yunnan flowers are selling well in the whole country.

“To transport the fresh-cut flowers, high-speed and normal trains are both used,” said Ma Yuan, deputy manager of the sales department of Kunming branch office of China Railway Express. “We also contact our clients by rail and road, so that they can enjoy door-to-door service which is safe and quick.”

As the flowers are vulnerable, and to prevent them going rot, the railway rolled our special transportation services for fresh goods. Meanwhile, security check, loading and transit services were improved.
