Hi, Kunming: Dongchuan land praised as God palette

Favored by photographers and backpackers, the Dongchuan red-soil land is a most famous tourist destination in central Yunnan’s Kunming city. It is praised as the “God's palette”.

The red earth, extending for nearly 50 kilometers (30 miles), was formed naturally after thousands of years’ erosion. Calcium, silicon and other elements slowly dissolved, leaving iron, aluminum and a large amount of iron oxide that stained the land with bright and dazzling red.

The land produces potato, highland barley, wheat, green buckwheat, rapeseed and other crops. The soil in red and the crops of various colors have formed the spectacular scenery of nature.
