Peony festival begins in Wuding

The 2023 Peony Cultural Tourism Festival officially kicked off on March 25 in Wuding county, central Yunnan's Chuxiong Yi autonomous prefecture.

Lasting from March 15 to May 15, the festival includes an opening, an embroidery competition, a peony-painting show, an investment promotion, a long-street banquet, and more.

Held for 32 years, the festival has been an important stage to show the Wuding cultural elements and promote economic development in the county, said Huang Zili, director of Culture and Tourism Bureau of Wuding County.

On the opening day, the competition of 100 embroider women knitting peonies was held in the peony garden of Wuding’s Lion Mountain scenic area. The Lion Mountain has become the peony-planting base in Yunnan. More than 40,000 peony varieties were cultivated there, with 10 being endemic ones.
