Passengers of the maiden flight get off the plane.

A passenger plane operated by Myanmar National Airlines reached Mangshi city, west Yunnan’s Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture on June 29, marking the opening of the Mangshi-Yangon international air route.

With a stopover in Mandalay city in Myanmar, the Mangshi-Yangon air route is flown by three flights weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Mangshi Airport once ran two international air routes to Mandalay and Yangon in 2019, which were later suspended due to Covid spikes. The Mangshi-Mandalay-Yangon new route marks the resumption of the airport’s international services.

The opening was witnessed by U Thaw Tar Aung, consul general of Myanmar in Kunming, as well as by those in charge of Myanmar civil aviation and Dehong prefecture.
