The 4th Malaysia Food and Cultural Festival kicked off in central Yunnan’s Kunming city on July 7.

A Malaysian dish is on display at event opening.

The festival displays coconut rice, curry chicken, rice noodles, milk jelly and other Malaysian cuisines. A traditional dance was staged by a Malaysian art troupe, amusing those present at the event a lot.

"The population in Malaysia consists of Malays, Chinese, Indians, Javanese and others. The ethnic diversity of the country has resulted in our unique food culture," said Faizal Bin Shani, Malaysian consul general in Kunming, hoping that Chinese folks could know more about Malaysia through food.

Malaysia is a popular destination among Chinese tourists. Li Yinning, general manager of Crowne Plaza Kunming Center Hotel, said that since the beginning of this year, an increasing number of Chinese tourists have returned to Malaysia for tropical sunshine and lovely beaches.

Jointly organized by the Malaysian Consulate General in Kunming and the Crowne Plaza Kunming Center Hotel, this year's food festival will last for two months.
