The 2023 China Industrial Transfer and Development Matchmaking Activities (Yunnan) will be held in central Yunnan’s Kunming city from September 2 to 4. Let’s take a look at the industrial developments for new energy and digital economy in Kunming, Yuxi and other places.

Improved business environment for new-energy batteries

Since 2021, Yunnan has invited in investment for specific industrial chains and optimized its business environment through major projects. As a result, local industrial development is gaining momentum.

The Shanghai-based Shanshan Technology is the Chinese pioneer in anode materials for making lithium batteries. Its first project in central Yunnan’s Anning city, a producing base to provide 300,000 tons of anode materials yearly, was put into operation after 247 days of construction.

Meanwhile, Fengyuan Lithium Energy Technology, a Shandong-based supplier of materials used in new energy vehicle batteries, had its project in central Yunnan’s Yuxi city signed and put into production within a year. The company’s staff said the sound business environment in Yunnan has brought them confidence in investing in Yuxi.

The output value of Yunnan's new energy battery industry reached 31.9 billion yuan in 2022, an increase of 406.5% year on year. In the first half of this year, the output value reached 16.277 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 111.5%.

At present, more than 60 new energy battery enterprises have been introduced into Yunnan, and the province has formed an annual output of 2.5GWh consumer batteries, 9GWh energy storage batteries and 808,000 tons of cathode/anode materials. The industrial chain has been improved.

Liu Jun, deputy general manager of Funeng Technology (Yunnan) Co., Ltd. said, "I’m very optimistic about the development prospects of Yunnan. The company plans to build a 24GWh lithium iron phosphate battery base in Anning."

In 2019, the Shanghai-based Wentai Technology set up an intelligent industrial park in Kunming. Now, smart phones, PCs and tablets are manufactured in order on the automatic production lines.

Integrating digital economy into real economy is the right way to high-quality economic development. Since 2020, over 50 Yunnan projects have been listed as industrial-internet role models by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The digital platform of Yunnan Kunchuan Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has improved labor productivity by 20%. The digital smelting plant of Yunnan Tin Group is controlling the production steps with precision.
