Chinese Bridge events to be staged in Beijing, Yunnan

The 16th Chinese Bridge - Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students and the 3rd Chinese Bridge - Chinese Show for Foreign Primary School Students will be held in Beijing and Yunnan from October 16 to 31.

Sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under the Chinese Ministry of Education, the 16th Chinese Bridge for secondary students is themed “Fly high with Chinese”, while the 3rd Chinese Bridge for primary students is themed “Chinese joy and fun”.

 The preliminary competition for secondary students in Malaysia is held in June.

A total of 45,000 primary and secondary students participated in the preliminary competitions of this year's Chinese Bridge events outside China. The preliminaries have selected 168 contestants from 97 countries, who will soon came to China for the global finals.

Till then, the contestants will visit Beijing, Dali and Kunming in succession for the final competitions that feature cultural experiences. The competitions for secondary students will focus on speeches and talent shows, while those for primary students aim to test their skills in Chinese language and traditional culture.

 

The preliminary competition for primary students in Ireland is held in May.

Over 3,200 primary and secondary students from 110 countries have entered in the global finals either physically or virtually, and more than 350,000 have participated in the preliminaries. The events are dubbed as “Chinese Olympics” by global Chinese language learners.

From 2012 to 2018, Yunnan province hosted the 5th to 11th Chinese Bridge events for secondary students, giving a strong pull to global cultural exchanges and mutual learning of civilizations.

 

 The preliminary competition for secondary students in India is held in June.
