Fruit it up | This is how American breakfast should look like!
What are the must-have ingredients in a full English breakfast?
You might mention smoked bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, black pudding, baked beans and even mushrooms.
And what does a typical American breakfast look like? Apart from fried eggs and bacon, pancakes must be in the plate.
Crêpes came from France, waffles originated in Belgium, while pancakes define the American lifestyle——This has long been a common impression. In fact, over the past few decades, pancakes have become more “American” than ever with certain ingredients being added to their recipes. The ingredients encompass strawberry, blueberry and maple syrup.
Indeed, if you search the images of pancakes online, it’s very likely that strawberry, blueberry and maple syrup are the three ingredients that always come along with them.
This is not an accident at all. As one of the most popular fruits worldwide, strawberry has been commonly used in the preparations of sweets, cakes and ice creams. However, you probably don’t know that strawberry originated in South America.
Blueberry has a similar story. It is believed that all commercial blueberries today (both wild and cultivated ones) are native North America, and the U.S. was undoubtedly the first country ever to commercialize the production of blueberries.
Maple syrup is a liquid made from the sap of maple trees. Maple trees are native to North America, particularly Canada. Early methods of producing maple syrup can be traced back to the era of indigenous people.
In other words, strawberry, blueberry and maple syrup —as three ingredients originated in the Americas —have altogether made pancakes more scrumptious and more “American”.
In this video above, Jerry will, step by step, teach you how to make classic pancakes with authentic Canadian maple syrup for your breakfast.
