"What impresses us most is the rich flavor of life deeply rooted in the prosperity, as well as the warmth and happiness beneath the city’s picturesque landscape," said director Cheng Fang and Cheng Xiao, who spent over a year capturing more than 200 real-life scenes of Chengdu citizens, culminating in the recent release of the city's promotional film "The Borderless Chengdu."
Chengdu's exceptional vitality stems from generations of the locals' optimism, openness, and inclusiveness.
Chengdu's distinct immigrant culture fosters among locals an open-minded and inclusive attitude toward life.
Chengdu has experienced multiple migration waves throughout its history, with people arriving from all across the country, bringing a broad range of architectural styles, cuisines, entertainment, and customs. Diverse cultures have merged and given rise to a thriving immigrant culture that brings every individual together, contributing to a shared prosperous home.
Chengdu's vibrancy also comes from its people's unwavering pursuit of happiness.
Unused and dispersed lands were turned into community gardens, allowing people to enjoy beautiful views when looking out their windows or stepping outside.
Fences encircling several old parks were removed to improve infrastructure, better the community, and beautify the city.
Sports arenas, parks, and intelligent science corners were built along rivers and streets or under bridges and ground. Each transformation aims at improving the comfort and enjoyment of life.
The Three-color Road Night Market on the Guohua street, Jinjiang district came back at the start of this year. The street was once known for its "trunk economy," where locals have retailing businesses in the car’s trunk, especially at night.
As night falls, joggers run along the riverbank while foodies huddle along the wayside. Each "trunk" vendor shows their ingenuity and distinct skills through self-made products, bringing the city a lively and leisurely atmosphere.
"Local governments have seized the opportunity provided by the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games to upgrade business patterns. In the future, we hope to cater to the masses and bring them more surprises," said a provincial businessman.
