Exhibition pays tribute to development of Chinese science fiction
An exhibition featuring the history of China's most famous science fiction magazine and the development of Chinese science fiction is being held in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, as a prelude to this year's World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon).
"Science Fiction World," one of the world's most popular science fiction periodicals, was established in Chengdu in 1979 under the title "Science Literature."
The magazine has boasted a circulation of over 100 million copies over its 44-year history and has been responsible for introducing many excellent Chinese science fiction writers and their work to its readership, including Liu Cixin and his Hugo Award-winning book, "The Three-Body Problem."
In addition to a collection of back issues, posters of the magazine and related historical materials, artistic elements are also on display at the exhibition, titled "Infinity," to make the development of science fiction more accessible while adding a sense of fun.
The exhibition will run until November 30.
Chengdu will be the first city on the Chinese mainland to host Worldcon, the annual convention of the World Science Fiction Society and one of the world's largest sci-fi events. This year's event will be held from October 18 to 22.
The winners of the 2023 Hugo Awards, the world's top prizes for science fiction literature, will be announced and presented during the convention.
