In November 2014, China proposed the Cooperation Initiative on Poverty Reduction in East Asia, under which it worked with neighboring countries to alleviate rural poverty.

As time passes, the poverty-reduction programs have benefited 13,000 residents of 2,800 families in six villages of Aye Chan Thar and Min Pyin in Myanmar, Ban Xienglorm and Ban Xor in Laos, as well as Svay Ampear and Chheuteal Phlos in Cambodia.
