China, ASEAN join hands in responding to climate change

China-ASEAN International Cooperation Seminar on Climate Change

Under the theme of "Responding to Climate Change: Actions and Missions," the China-ASEAN International Cooperation Seminar on Climate Change was held in central Yunnan’s Kunming city from November 15 to 16.

More than 100 climatologists from China and ASEAN countries, as well as persons in charge of the ASEAN organs, attended the seminar.

Among them, 15 spoke on renewable energy, technological innovation, China-ASEAN cooperation in responding climate change, and sustainable development in the region.

Yunnan province is the Chinese pivot of opening up to South Asia and Southeast Asian countries. Its economic cooperation, cultural exchanges and eco-environmental cooperation with ASEAN countries have been key to building the China-ASEAN community of shared future.

The CO2 emission in per unit of Yunnan GDP decreased by 30.8% in 2020, with energy use in that dropping by 14.56%. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), Yunnan stood out among Chinese provinces in clean energy.

Sponsored by China-ASEAN Cooperation Fund, the seminar is hosted by Yunnan Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the ASEAN Secretariat.
