Scientists make cutting-edge projects more popular
The 2023 Tengchong Scientists Forum
Global scientists and entrepreneurs gathered at the 2023 Tengchong Scientists Forum (TCSF) in southwest Yunnan’s Tenchong city. By sharing with each other thoughts on industrial innovation driven by technologies, they pooled wisdom for further integrating scientific innovation into industrial development.
Let's look at some of their views.
Xu Zhihong, academician at Chinese Academy of Sciences and former president of Peking University
We invited entrepreneurs to the forum this year because we’d like to know more about the ideas of entrepreneurs and in what areas they are in need of our further research. Scientists should make cutting-edge scientific projects more popular.
In the Gaoligong mountainous areas where coffee grows well, for example, we hope to produce the best coffee beans with excellent coffee seeds, own the best coffee processing steps, and make high-caliber Yunnan coffee drinks.
Su Weiwei, academician at the European Academy of Sciences and the School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University
It’s a pleasure for the public to benefit from our research. My team and I have been cultivating medicinal plants for more than 20 years. Our citri-grandis project has raised farmers in west Guangdong out of poverty, encouraging young migrant workers to return home for employment.
After some 20 years of development, our project there has reached an output value of more than 7 billion yuan.
Huang Dongmei, vice president of Shanghai University of Electric Power
The TCSF is becoming increasingly influential. For Yunnan, the scientists forum will be conducive to cultivation of high-tech talents and to development of Yunnan industries, especially the development of high-tech industries. It’s a major platform.
