Visual AI utilized in vegetable markets
In a recent demonstration, CEO Li Mi of a technology company in southeast China’s Xiamen city showcased how visual AI works in vegetable markets.
The design team installed visual sensors on ordinary electronic scales. Through advanced algorithm design, the visual AI can rapidly recognize items with images in its database. This intelligent electronic scale can accurately identify over 480 types of fruits and vegetables within 0.5 seconds, automatically completing weighing and settlement.
Li explained that traditionally, people manually weigh and settle loose fruits and vegetables when shopping in the market. But now, the widespread adoption of the intelligent scale will significantly enhance the checkout efficiency in the retail industry, not only saving the workforce but also optimizing the shopping experience for customers.
"Algorithmic design enables machines to 'see' and understand the world as humans do," said Li, highlighting the advanced algorithm allows machines to undergo deep learning with an image library.
