“Forest of Light” public art event held in Kunming
An art event opening to the general public named "Forest of Light" was unveiled at the Kunming World Horticultural Expo Garden, one of the city's major tourist attractions, on Sunday March 17.
As an integral part of the 2024 Dianchi Art Session, this event was launched and co-organized by the CPC Kunming Municipal Committee, Kunming Municipal Government and Shanghai Ruanyisan Heritage Foundation.
Themed "Home and future", this year's Dianchi Art Session focuses on demonstrating the unique natural and cultural heritages around Dianchi, the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan province, through dozens of art pieces created by artists and architects from both China and abroad.
The art event began inside an greenhouse named 15°KUN. As the morning sunshine enters this greenhouse and music starts to be played, an unprecedented artistic vibe was created along with the giant tropical plants being grown in the space. Later, a short artistic show was presented before guests and audiences.
The 15°KUN is an artwork created by Zhang Ying, a well-known and leading space designer in China. "Instead of leaving them in art galleries, I prefer to display my art pieces in a forest, on a seashore or in an garden with blooming flowers, so that more people can have access to what is called art, " said Zhang Ying.
Founded earlier this year, the Dianchi Art Session has so far been divided into three sections. A total of ten artists have been invited by Yang Xiong and Nie Rongqing, two leading Yunnan artists, to engage in this part taking place in the Kunming World Horticultural Expo Garden.
This event aims at offering a platform where artists from across China and abroad can draw inspiration from Yunnan's abundant natural and cultural resources and merge Yunnan into their own art pieces.
Other events and activities associated with this year's Dianchi Art Session will be held soon in Kunming.
